The Shinnston Development Authority was created by City Council and became active in 2010. The panel consists of 12-21 members, appointed by the city council and representing the council, city management, business, industry, and labor.
The stated purpose of the SDA is to promote, develop and advance the business prosperity and economic welfare of Shinnston. Through loans, investments or other business transactions, the SDA is designed to advance business and industrial development and maintain the economic stability of the City of Shinnston by:
The SDA has the authority to cooperate and act in conjunction with other federal, state, or local organizations in the promotion and advancement of industrial, commercial, agricultural, and recreational developments within the City of Shinnston and Harrison County; and to furnish money and credit, land and industrial sites, technical assistance, and other such aid as may be deemed requisite to approved and deserving applicants for the promotion, development, and conduct of all kinds of business activity within Shinnston. One of its current endeavors is to raise money to restore the Christmas Lights hung in downtown Shinnston each year.
